Sue joined the Management Team as Project Delivery and Development Manager in June 2009 with direct responsibility for the Older Peoples Charter Monitoring Groups, which plays a key part in improving health and social care for older people in the region.

Sue hs recently taken on the role of liaison with Community Transport Operators Network.

Jacky Birkett - Delivery and Development Manager

Jacky Birkett - Delivery and Development Manager

Jacky joined HWRA in 2019 as the new Development & Delivery Manager to support delivery of HWRA’s projects and service development. Jacky’s background is in community safety, youth crime prevention and Volunteer Centre management and training across North and North East Lincolnshire.

Having joined HWRA as an associate in 2018, Jacky worked with a group of men in Winterton to set up the Winterton Men in Sheds project, and since joining HWRA continues to support the development of Men in Sheds across the Humber area, including the development of an Alliance of Men in Sheds. Jacky works closely with all team members to ensure HWRA projects achieve their aims and objectives.

In 2020 Jacky is also working for the North Lincolnshire Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise Alliance to set up a brand new volunteer brokerage service, establishing a network of volunteers to build and enhance community capacity and resilience.

Rachel Williams - Finance Officer

Rachel Williams - Finance Officer

HWRA is pleased to welcome Rachel Williams to the staff team as Finance Officer. She has worked in the voluntary sector for 13 years and the finance sector for 30 years. As a Board member and Treasurer of a homeless project in Scunthorpe she also has experience of the responsibilities of a Trustee.
Rachel will assist the organisation to further implement Xero, our new management accounting system, complete monthly payroll and prepare for the Independent Examination. She will support the staff team and Trustees in making effective decisions based upon good financial information.
Rachel says “I am resourceful and if I don’t know the answer, I will it find out. Working in the voluntary sector for a number of years, you gain a lot of knowledge. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with HWRA to help to develop the organisation and ensure a sustainable future”.

Carole Foster - Village Hall Advisor and Support Worker for the Voluntary Car Service

Carole Foster has worked for the Voluntary Car Service for many years and provides the scheme with valuable support and insight into the requirements of her customers. The scheme enables residents of North Lincolnshire to access services they would otherwise be unable to attend due to lack of transport, both public and private.

Carole has recently been appointed as the Village Halls advisor and will be liaising with members to offer support and guidance as required. Carole is also active in seeking new members by attending conferences and events to raise the profile of HWRA.

Carole Johnson - Community Development Coordinator & Project coordinator for Men in Sheds & Wheels to Work (North East Lincolnshire)

Carole Johnson - Community Development Coordinator & Project coordinator for Men in Sheds & Wheels to Work (North East Lincolnshire)

Carole has worked at HWRA since 2009 as a Community Development Coordinator.  During this time, she has been the project lead on a number of projects delivered by Humber & Wolds Rural Action in different localities within the East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire. Her current role is as the Development Coordinator on the Men in Sheds Project. This project involves the men's sheds in Northern Lincolnshire which provide community spaces for men and women to connect, converse, create and develop friendships to help reduce loneliness and isolation. Carole also coordinates the Humber Men in Sheds Alliance which provides inter shed support, training opportunities and a place to share ideas and develop friendships for sheds located in the Humber region.

Carole also delivers the Wheels to Work Scheme- a scooter loan scheme which assist people with transport issues to access employment, training or education opportunities in North East Lincolnshire.

Peter Hirschfeld - Community Development Coordinator including the Bulk Oil Buying Schemes

Peter has worked for HWRCC since 2004 as a Community Development Coordinator and his main project work promotes the concept of, and support for communities who are looking to provide Community-Led Affordable Housing in their community.  Community-led housing aims to solve local housing problems, create affordable homes and establish and encourage strong communities.

Peter also gives Energy Efficiency advice to rural communities that do not have access to mains gas and helps to combat Fuel Poverty in these settlements. He also helps to produce Energy Audits for Village Halls.

Peter is also the Coordinator of the two Bulk Oil Buying Groups run by HWRA.  In East Yorkshire, the YORSwitch Bulk Oil Buying Scheme and in North Lincolnshire, the NLC Switch Bulk Oil Buying Scheme offers residents in each county the opportunity to reduce the cost of their heating through Bulk purchasing.

Peter's work supporting Neighbourhood Planning Groups or completing a Community Review in the Humber area concentrates on community engagement, to record the view of residents on a range of topics and analysis of survey results.

Fiona Chapman - Administrative Support Worker

Fiona Chapman - Administrative Support Worker

Fiona has joined the HWRA team in June 2019 bringing her experience in Administrative roles within the Local Authority Schools and Education, Community Centres and Voluntary Services.

Fiona will be supporting HWRA by raising the profile using her marketing and communication experience within social media and the Humber and Wolds Rural Action website.

Fiona also supports the project leaders by providing admin for the Bulk Oil buying schemes and Trustee meetings.

Julie Cook

Administrative Assistant and Men In Sheds Support Admin.

Julie joined the team in October 2019 initially on a temporary basis to assist with the admin on a BBO Project and then continued to do the admin on the Men in Sheds Project and general admin for the Humber and Wolds Office.  Her background was as a Teaching Assistant supporting children with special needs and is also experienced at supporting vulnerable adults.

Lincolnshire Co-op Community Champions -funding available

From the 5th September until 4th December they will be supporting groups and projects that are working on food sustainability and/or food surplus. This can include the following projects: Membership supermarkets Community fridges Growing projects Cooking projects Educational projects around food. Wrap around care for people in food poverty The closing date for applications is Friday 6th August 2021. They anticipate projects will receive between 1000-10,000 (depending on amount needed for project).
